In an important judicial decision, the High Court of Delhi granted provisional protection to the actress of Bollywood Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, preventing various parts from using her name, her image, her resemblance or other personal attributes without her consent. Justice Tejas Karia, in an ex-partner injunction, considered that such an unauthorized exploitation violates her personality rights and brings his right to privacy and dignity.

The court order specifically prohibits improper use via support, including artificial intelligence, generative AI, morphing facing, deep buttocks and automatic learning. Among the accused are a list of known and unknown entities (including the “John Doe” defendants) accused of exploiting Rai’s identity for commercial purposes without authorization.
Google LLC was responsible for deleting and blocking the URL identified within 72 hours of the notice. In addition, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technologies (MEITY) must issue instructions to deactivate all violation URL within seven days.
The court said: “The personality of individuals, simple, imply the right to control and protect the exploitation of the image, the name, the resemblance or other attributes of the personality of the individuals, in addition to the commercial gains which can be derived from the same.
The court added: “In other words, the unauthorized exploitation of the attributes of the personality of an individual can have two facets – first, a violation of his right to protect his personality attributes against commercially exploited and the second violation of his right to privacy, which in turn led to undermining his right to live with dignity.”
In his decision, judge Karia observed that “the abusive use of the name, image, resemblance and other elements of the applicant is clearly a violation of the adoption of the aforementioned attributes … without any authorization from the applicant.”
The court provided for other procedures: an appearance before the joint registrar on November 7, 2025 and a complete hearing on January 15, 2026.
