Actress Deepika Padukone has addressed the ongoing row over her demand for an eight-hour shift, a demand that reportedly led to her departure from Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Spirit and that of Nag Ashwin Kalki 2898 AD following. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, the actor highlighted the double standards faced by women in the film industry compared to their male counterparts.

“As a woman, if it seems pushy or whatever, so be it,” Deepika said, responding to the criticism. “But it’s no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry have been working eight hours for years, and it’s never made headlines. A lot of them only work eight hours Monday to Friday. They don’t work weekends.”
Deepika further reflected on the need for structure in an otherwise chaotic work environment. “Even though we call it an industry, we’ve never really worked as one. It’s a very disorganized industry, and I think it’s time to introduce a system into this culture,” she noted.
The actor found himself at the center of the debate after his departure Spiritapparently because her request for reduced working hours – made to ensure she could balance her professional and personal commitments, particularly time spent with her daughter Dua – was not met. Soon after, production house Vyjayanthi Movies announced that she was no longer part of the group. Kalki 2898 AD suite, citing the project’s requirement for “a higher level of engagement.”
Her comments on working hours coincided with her visit to Madhya Pradesh on World Mental Health Day, where she celebrated 10 years of her foundation, Live Love Laugh. The event served as both a celebration of the foundation’s decade-long work in raising mental health awareness and a reaffirmation of its advocacy.
When asked if she felt like she was paying the price for asking for what she thought was right, Deepika replied thoughtfully, “I’ve done that on many levels. Even when it comes to pay, I’ve had to deal with everything that comes with it. I’m someone who has always fought my battles in silence, and for some strange reason sometimes they become public, which is not the way I know and it’s not the way I’ve been high But yes, fight my battles. and to do them silently and in a dignified manner is as I know it.
Despite the controversy, Deepika has already returned to work, starting shooting for Siddharth Anand’s film. King alongside Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. She is also set to feature in Atlee’s upcoming film AA22xA6 with Allu Arjun.
