“Embarrassing”: Suryakumar Kumar Dejected As MI Make Bizarre Retirement Decision, Internet Reacts

Suryakumar Yadav seemed unhappy with the Mombai Indians (Mi) Indian decision to withdraw the Tilak Varma striker in their 2025 IPL match against the Super Giants of Lucknow (LSG) on Friday. Tilak, which was the MI impact substitute, had only succeeded 25 on 23 balls with two limits when Mitchell Santner with a career IPL IPL rate of 106 was sent. The head coach of the Mi Mahela Jayawardène said that it was not pleasant to retire, but suggested that the decision was tactical because Tilak had trouble making the ball.

Suryakumar, T20i captain of India, was not satisfied with this decision. In a viral video, Jayawardene was seen transmitting the message to Suryakumar, who seemed a little disappointed with Santner replacing Tilak in the penultimate.

Need 24 points out of the last seven bullets in pursuit of a difficult 204, MI chose to retire Tilak, but the strategy did not work because they only succeeded in 191 for five in their 20 Overs, losing the 12 -point match.

“I think Tilak beat up for us when we lost this counter and this partnership with Surya and he just wanted to start, but he just couldn’t,” said Jayawardene.

“I waited until the last letters hoping that because it (Tilak) spent a little time there, so it should have been able to withdraw this blow, but I felt that in the end that I needed someone fresh to go because they were struggling,” he added.

Captain Hardik Pandya (28 out of 16 balls) broke six on Avesh Khan’s first ball in the final, but the bowler restricted Mi to only three points remaining, with Mitchell Santner to face only two balls.

A disappointed Jayawardene reflected that they had to be more “ruthless” in match situations to cross the line.

“I think that in halfway, even in the 14th above Mark, we were there, 12 balls, 14 balls, we were by a score with them … We had the game in control most of the time after having lost these two early counters, but it was just disappointing that we can simply not finish it,” he said.

“I think it’s at the start of the season, so we have to be a little more ruthless when we are in these kinds of situations to try to finish a match.”
