Fresh Woes For Brazil Football As Federation Boss Dismissed

A court of Rio de Janeiro ordered the dismissal Thursday of the director of the Brazilian football federation Ednaldo Rodrigues to suspect that a signature in his employment contract has been forged. The decision marks a new blow to Brazilian football, which celebrated rare new news only four days ago with the announcement that Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti will take the reins of the national team later this month. The Rio court declared that one of the signatories of the Rodrigues contract in 2025 had been mentally unfit to sign, which means that there had been a “possible counterfeiting”.

Consequently, the judge ruled in a judgment consulted by AFP, the work agreement between Rodrigues and the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), was “zero” and not avenue.

The judge also ordered that the Federation is organizing new elections to management.

Rodrigues, the first black president of the CBF, told journalists at a FIFA meeting in Asuncion on Thursday, before the decision, he had “absolute certainty” that the document was valid.

The 71 -year -old man had already been temporarily suspended in 2023 after a court found irregularities with his elections in 2022, but was reinstated in the orders of a Supreme Court judge after FIFA threatened with sanctions against Brazilian football.

FIFA and the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) had refused to accept Rodrigues’ eviction in 2023, warning the CBF, it could be prohibited from international competitions if it allowed external interference in its affairs.

Rodrigues, the first black president in the history of the CBF, had led negotiations to sign the owner of Real Madrid, Carlo Ancelotti, as a coach, an offer that collapsed at the time.

Ancelotti, whom Rodrigues praised the “greatest coach in history”, was finally appointed on Monday at the work of Selecao.

In March, Rodrigues was unanimously re -elected to his post until 2030, while the only candidate remaining after the former star striker Ronaldo withdrew from the race.

Allegations of purchase support

A few weeks later, however, Rodrigues found himself in hot water following an investigation by the Brazilian magazine Piaui in the functioning of the CBF.

The article said that Rodrigues had bought the support of the leaders of the regional football federations towards his election by giving them a big salary.

The CBF hoped that Ancelotti, who won the Champions League twice with AC Milan, would help turn the page over a deadly period for Brazil, still in shock from its historic 4-1 battery by Argentina in March.

The latest team coach, Dorival Junior, was dismissed above this performance.

The record winners of the World Cup World Cup languish in fourth place on the South American qualification table for the tournament next year in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
