FWICE condemns undeclared ban on Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s The Bengal Files in West Bengal theatres : Bollywood News

FWICE expressed its concern about the reluctance of theater owners to Western Bengal to project the film, calling it an offense both on constitutional law to freedom of expression and the creative freedom of filmmakers. In a statement, the organization urged the state government to take immediate measures to ensure that the film is shown without obstruction or interference, stressing that such unofficial restrictions undermines the efforts and investments of filmmakers who provide important stories to the public.
The Federation stressed that any direct or indirect pressure preventing the projection of a film strikes at the heart of freedom of expression in Indian cinema, creating a precedent dangerous for freedom of creation. FWICE called on the authorities to ensure that Western Bengal theaters comply with standard exhibition practices and that Bengal files reaches the public through the state as planned.
