Hitesh Becomes First Indian Boxer To Win Gold In World Boxing Cup, India Finish With Six Medals

The Indian boxing quota proposed an impressive performance in its very first outing in the international meeting of the elite level organized by world boxing when they won six medals, including gold and silver in the Brazil 2025 boxing in Foz do Iguacu on Saturday. Hitesh became the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal in the world boxing cup. His opponent, Odel Kamara, of England, was injured and could not take the ring in the 70 kg final, according to a press release from the India boxing federation (BFI).
Abhinash Jamwal, the other Indian boxer to reach the final in the 65 kg category, did his best against the local favorite Yuri Reis, but could not do enough to get a favorable verdict and put a silver medal.
Four Indian players have won bronze medals, including Jaduni Singh Mandengbam (50kg), Manish Rathore (55 kg), Sachin (60 kg) and Vishal (90 kg).
Hitesh, after having become the first Indian boxer to win a gold medal in the world boxing cup, credited the 10 -day preparation camp in Brazil before the tournament as something that helped him a lot and the team.
“The camp helped me learn some tactical shades that helped me a lot in the competition. This tournament provided us with a fantastic exhibition at the highest level and I am happy to be able to take the gold medal,” said Hitesh.
India had aligned a contingent of 10 members for the World Boxing Cup, their first major international outing since the Paris Olympic Games, and by eating six medals, which will not only increase the confidence of the team when they start to prepare for the 2028 Olympic cycle before the Los Angeles Games.
