‘India Shouldn’t Play Pakistan Even At ICC Events Till…’: Gautam Gambhir Declares After Pahalgam Terrorist Attack

India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, called on Tuesday to a complete stop of cricket commitments with Pakistan in any forum, including events from the Asian Cup and the CPI, following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. During an ABP event, Gambir said that the national team should not play the arc rivals until the end of cross -border terrorism. India has not played a complete series against Pakistan since 2007 due to tense relations between the two countries. They are only played during multi-team events and even it should be interrupted, said Gambir.

“My personal answer to this is absolutely not. Until all this (cross-border terrorism) does not stop, there should be nothing between India and Pakistan,” said Gambir when he asked him about the future of Indo-Pak cricket in the current environment.

During a terrorist attack on April 22 in the city of Pahalgam of the South Kashmir, 26 people, mainly tourists, were shot.

Responding to the horrible incident, India has announced several measures against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Industrial Water Treaty, the only land border crossing at Attari and the demode of diplomatic links with a view to cross -border links with the attack.

“In the end, it is the government’s call, whether we played them or not. I already said it, no cricket or bollywood match or any other interaction is more important than the life of Indian soldiers and Indian citizens,” said Gambir.

“The matches will continue to perform, films will be made, the singers will continue to perform, but nothing is close to losing a loved one in your family.” Questioned specifically about India playing Pakistan in the Asian Cup this year or at the T20 World Cup, co-organized by India and Sri Lanka next year, Gambir has placed the burden on the BCCI and the government.

“It is not mine, it is for BCCI and, more importantly, the government to decide whether we have to play them or not.

“Whatever the decision they make, we should absolutely agree with this and not politicize it.” In the recent champions trophy, India has played all its matches in Dubai and not at the reception of Pakistan due to security problems.

As part of an agreement concluded between the BCCI, Pakistan Cricket Board and the ICC, all the matches of India-Pakistan in ICC events will be played in a neutral country until the 2027 cycle.
