The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 will present a special tribute to the legendary filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak, marking the 100th anniversary of his birth. Known for his work as a director, screenwriter, actor and playwright, Ghatak’s films have acquired broader recognition as a posthumous basis.

Known for his deep commitment to the partition, social realities and feminism, Ghatak’s films as Meghe Dhaka Tara,, SubarnarekhaAnd Komal Gandhar are now celebrated as masterpieces. His distinctive voice and his revolutionary visual narration shaped the account of Indian cinema in order to be studied and appreciated by filmmakers and academics around the world.
Padma Shri Award Ritwik Ghatak has received several national prizes for his work. The IFFM 2025 will fell in love with a retrospective of its films, as well as group discussions and academic sessions to highlight its workforce and present it to a new international audience.
