Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne confirmed on Friday that he would leave the club at the end of the season. “Each story ends, but it has certainly been the best chapter,” wrote Le Belgium International, 33, in an article on social networks. De Bruyne is the captain of the current City club and has been at the club since 2015, when he had signed Wolfsburg. “Nothing on this subject is easy to write, but as a football players, we all know that this day comes finally. This day is there – and you deserve to hear it first,” said Bruyne in an article on social networks.
“Football led me to all of you – and to this city. Hunting my dream, not knowing this period would change my life. This city. This club. These people … gave me everything. I had no choice but to return everything! And guess what – we won everything.”
The Belgian international played a decisive role in the rise of the city to the dominant force in English football.
He was crowned player of the players of the players twice in 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 and is second in the ranking of all time in the Premier League for the decisive passes out of 118.
His contract should expire at the end of June, but it is not clear if he will continue to see his life as a player in the club’s World Cup, which takes place from June 14 to July 13.
