Kidambi Srikanth Storms Into Malaysia Masters Quarters, Ends Irish Challenge

The experienced Indian badminton player Kidambi Srikanth entered the quarter -finals of Malaysia Masters after defeating Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen in his second round match here on Thursday. Srikanth prevailed 23-21, 21-17 in the 59-minute confrontation against the world number 33 Nguyen. Srikanth, whose world ranking fell to 65 due to an extended lean patch, will face the French Junior Popov Toma in the last stage. Popov has ousted another Indian, Ayush Shetty, with a triumph of 21-13, 21-17 in his second round match. Sathish Karunakaran also bowed. He was beaten 14-21, 16-21 by Toma’s brother and partner of Double Christo Popov.

In the double competition, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila qualified for the quarter-finals of the mixed event with a victory of 21-17, 18-21, 21-15 against Lea Palerme and Julien Maio de France.

They will then be faced with the Chinese combination of Jiang Zhen Bang and Wei Ya Xin.
