A public interest litigation (PIL) petition has been filed in the Delhi High Court seeking action against the soon-to-be-released film. The history of the Taj with actor Paresh Rawal. The film, scheduled for release on October 31, has sparked heated debate following its poster, which depicts a statue of Lord Shiva emerging from the iconic dome of the Taj Mahal – a visual that revives the controversial theory alleging the monument’s origins in a Hindu temple.

Advocate Shakeel Abbas, the petitioner, claims that The history of the Taj presents “fabricated and provocative content” about the origins of the Taj Mahal, contradicting established historical consensus and scientific writings. The petition claims the film’s speculative claims threaten to erode public trust in history, cause community unrest and potentially harm the international reputation of the Taj Mahal, recognized globally as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The plea urges the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to review the certification given to the film and order required cuts if necessary to safeguard communal harmony across the country. Additionally, the PIL requests that a clear disclaimer be added to the film, clarifying that it presents a disputed narrative rather than an established fact.
According to the petition, the film contains “deeply divisive scenes” that could spark communal tensions and disrupt public order. The plea also mentions the amplification of controversial statements by political leaders and fringe groups, raising alarms about the risk of nationwide unrest.
