In a recent interview with Vickey Lalwani, the veteran filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar looked at a moment in his career when he had to make a difficult choice between the superstars of Bollywood Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan for an advertisement. Kakkar revealed that although Shah Rukh quoted lower costs from Rs. 6 Lakhs an amount he would need to finance the purchase of his Mumbai bungalow, now iconic, Mannat – it was Aamir who finally put the role after months of negotiation.

Why was Aamir Khan chosen on Shah Rukh Khan

Recalling the incident, Kakkar said, “Aamir was billing about Rs. 17 Lakhs, while Shah Rukh only asked Rs. 6 Lakhs. But I felt that he was not going for the film. According to Kakkar, his priority was not the costs, but finding the right choice for the story of the ad. “I needed someone who had the image of a clean and innocent actor. Aamir had that after Qayamat se qayamat tak– He had the image of the boy next door, someone simple and related. Kakkar revealed that it took almost six months to enclose Aamir for the project. Despite the higher cost, he thought that the actor’s image on the screen was perfectly suited to the tone and the message of the announcement.

Although the casting decision could seem risky at the time, Kakkar was held next to his choice, focusing on the alignment of the characters on the budget – an approach that reflects his longtime philosophy in the narration.
