Sameer Wankhede denies having any grudges against Shah Rukh Khan and family: “I’m just a Government Servant, not living in a Banana Republic” : Bollywood News

IRS officer Sameer Wankhede has broken his silence amid the controversy surrounding the defamation suit he filed against Netflix, Red Chillies Entertainment and Aryan Khan over the web series The B***ds of Bollywood. The series, which marks Khan’s directorial debut, reportedly features a character who slanders Wankhede’s reputation and mocks anti-drug agencies.

Sameer Wankhede denies having grudges against Shah Rukh Khan and his family: ‘I’m just a government official, I don’t live in a banana republic’
“There is none…I am an officer of the law, whatever the books and laws are, I do it according to that,” Wankhede told HT City, emphasizing his commitment to the rule of law. “We don’t live in some kind of banana republic here. We have a constitution, we have a system, we have a system… I’m a very small man, just a government official. How can anyone have such a grudge and all these things, you know? It’s just casual discussions.”
The officer’s strong words pose a direct challenge to representation in the Netflix series, which he says is a “calculated and vindictive hit job.”3
For those unaware, the animosity between Wankhede and the Khan family dates back to October 2021. At the time, Wankhede was the zonal director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Mumbai and led the high-profile raid on a cruise ship, which resulted in the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan on charges related to the drug. Aryan spent almost a month in detention before being released on bail. In May 2022, all charges against Aryan were finally dropped by the NCB due to lack of sufficient evidence.
This high-voltage arrest laid the foundations for the current legal battle. Wankhede’s suit claims that a character in Bollywood B***ds is an unambiguous caricature of him, designed to paint him in a false and malicious light. The Delhi High Court recently intensified the matter by issuing summons to Red Chillies Entertainment, Netflix and other entities. Wankhede’s plea demands Rs. 2 crore in damages, which he has pledged to pay to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
Beyond defamation, the former NCB officer raised a serious objection against a specific scene: a character allegedly made an obscene gesture immediately after uttering the national slogan “Satyamev Jayate”. Wankhede says this is a serious violation of the Prevention of Insults to National Honor Act, 1971.
Although the High Court acknowledged that there is “reason” in favor of Wankhede, it refused to pass an interim injunction to stop the broadcast of the series at this stage. The court ordered the defendants to file their responses within seven days, with the case scheduled to be heard on October 30. Wankhede is not only fighting for his personal honor, but also for the “dignity of law enforcement officers.”
