Fawad Khan returns to Bollywood with ABIR GULAAL Attracted reactions from political parties to the Maharashtra, in particular the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) and Shiv Sena. The next film, with also Vaani Kapoor, recently unveiled his trailer, bringing the Pakistani actor back to the Indian film industry after almost a decade. The ban on Pakistani artists in Indian films has been in place since 2016. Although the High Court of Bombay has rejected a request concerning the ban in 2023, tensions concerning their involvement in Bollywood remain.

Reacting to the trailer of ABIR GULAALThe leader of the MNS, Ameya Khopkar, expressed the opposition of the party at the end of the film in the Maharashtra. “We only learned about the release of this film today when the manufacturers have announced it. But we clearly indicate that we will not allow this film to be released in the Maharashtra because it presents a Pakistani actor. In any case, we allow to publish such films in the state. We have collected more information on the film and we will soon publish a complete statement,” said Khopkar Bhaskar.
Shiv Sena, Sanjay Nirupam (from the Eknath Shinde faction), also addressed the issue, stressing the general feeling towards Pakistani artists in India. Speaking to Etimes, he shared: “There is a widespread hatred for Pakistan in India. When a film from Pakistan is published, the Indian public does not prefers it. Even if some people watch it out of curiosity. If the central government has a policy that should be implemented. Being authorized to work here must be done by the government.”
The controversy surrounding the return of Fawad Khan highlights the current debate on cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, political parties and stakeholders in the industry occupying different opinions. In the meantime, ABIR GULAAL is a romantic drama that is planned for cinemas of May 9, 2025. It remains to be seen whether these objections will have an impact on the artist’s exit.
