The controversy surrounding Udaipur filesWith Vijay Raaz, continues to intensify while Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, one of the petitioners of the case, officially approached the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) to request the ban on the release of the film. The film was initially to strike the cinemas on July 11, 2025, but the High Court of Delhi had previously published a suspension, leading the center to reassess the certification of the film.

On Tuesday, Arshad Madani, president of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, confirmed via his official account on X (formerly Twitter) that a petition had been deposited with the ministry in accordance with the prescription of the High Court. He said: “On behalf of Jamiat Ulema-E-Hind, a petition was filed with the Ministry of Information and Dissemination to prohibit the projection of the film Udaipur files. This petition was deposited in accordance with a Delhi’s high court directive, which had imposed a temporary ban on the release of the film and advised the review of the certificate issued by the Censorship Council. »»
Concerns about community harmony
In his article, Madani stressed that the petition underlines how the film could “promote community tension in society” and “damage the country’s image at the international level”. He added that the ministry was invited to respond to the petition in a week, with an audience likely to be planned soon.
The film would have focused on the murder of June 28, 2022 of Kanhaiya Lal Teli, a tailor in Udaipur, Rajasthan. He was killed by two attackers in his shop after having pretended to share a publication on social networks in support of controversial remarks made by the spokesperson for the BJP, Nupur Sharma, about the Prophet Muhammad. The incident had sparked general indignation and protests across the country.
The content of the film under control
Udaipur files is criticized by the petitioners for having potentially encouraged hatred and distorting municipal accounts. Although manufacturers of the film said it has a factual account of the incident, its trailer and its promotional content have already aroused significant online debate.
The High Court of Delhi had, in its previous audience, urged the center to reconsider the certificate granted by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and to make a decision concerning the release of the film after examining all the objections.
