“What Counts Is…”: Hansi Flick’s Blunt Warning To In-Form Barcelona Players

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick said on Tuesday that his team would be on the silverware they win this season, regardless of the entertainment of their football. The Catalan giants are fighting for a quadruple potential, after winning the Spanish Super Cup in January and playing with the Flair and the style they lacked in recent seasons. Barcelona faces Atletico Madrid on Wednesday in a confrontation of the semi-final of Copa del Rey, sitting first at La Liga and in the quarterfinals of the Champions League.
“I think my team, the players, may be very proud of what they are doing,” said Flick at a press conference.
“I think the team has improved a lot, so that is also what I told them, I appreciate it about (our way) so far.
“But it’s football, and you finally know what matters is your position, the titles if they are possible.”
Barcelona scored four or more goals in 20 of the 45 matches they have played in all competitions this season.
They drew 4-4 with Atletico during the first stage of the Semi Copa in February and Flick said that Raphinha and Pau Cubarsi were able to play after resting against Girona at La Liga on Sunday.
The goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen returned to training this week after a long installation after knee surgery, although it will take a while before being able to compete with Wojciech Szczesny for the gloves.
“He was on the ground today and we will see, step by step, it’s normal, we have to wait,” said Flick.
“Now is not the time to make a decision or to say anything about it … The good news is that it is in a good time, everything goes in the right direction.”
Atletico coach Diego Simeone said that losing against Barcelona would not count as a failure for his team.
The Rojiblancos were eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid and are at nine points behind Barça in Liga, the COPA representing their latest realistic chances of silverware this season.
“The failure does not try, the one who tries, does not fail,” said Simeone.
“For me, it was a very good season, we are in the semi-finals of Copa del Rey.”
