Amber Cinema Jamnagar shuts down; was the ONLY theatre in Gujarat to screen Aamir Khan’s Fanaa and a RARE cinema hall to screen Salman Khan’s Radhe : Bollywood News





Unique screen cinemas have a charm but are also confronted at difficult times surviving in the times we live. Therefore, it is not uncommon to hear about these theaters from time to time. The last theater to descend its shutters is Amber Cinema de Jamanagar. It was also one of the oldest racing rooms in Gujarat.

According to reports, Amber Cinema was inaugurated in 1972 and the first film to play was the Dharmendra and Hema Malini-Starrer Raja Jani. The theater quickly became popular and an essential part of the life of cinephiles in the city. The reports indicate that it had become difficult for management to execute a single screen at the time of today. Therefore, with a heavy heart, he stopped operations on Friday, June 27. An opinion table has been installed in the premises which indicate that “the theater will remain closed from today”.

Fanaa connection
In 2006, Amber Cinema did new news when she projected the star of Aamir Khan-Kajol FanaaThe only Gujarat film to do so. The romantic thriller was prohibited in the state after Aamir Khan participated in an event led by the ecologist Medha Patkar against the Narmada dam. Aamir’s effigies have been burned through the state and realizing that there may be problems of order and even vandalism, the theaters of Gujarat have decided not to play Fanaa.

The case reached the Supreme Court, which clearly indicated that the Government of Gujarat was required to provide security to multiplex owners if they were looking for police protection. On June 11, however, a man set fire to the toilet of Amber cinema to protest against the projection of Fanaa. He slowed down the demonstrations. On June 12, Amber Cinema decided to stop the film. Until then, nearly 13,000 people had looked Fanaa.

Meanwhile, Pravin Joshi, the man who attempted self-immolation to Amber, died after fighting for life in a hospital for 9 days.

Radhe connection
Amber Cinema was one of the three theaters of Gujarat to play Radhe – Your most sought after Bhai (2021). He was released in May of the same year, at the height of the second wave of Covid-19, when the cinemas were closed. On June 27, when the Government of Gujarat authorized theaters to resume operations, the management of the film published the Salman Khan-Starrer. The film was available on OTT and moreover, word of mouth was poor in medium. However, the film managed to obtain around 20 to 90 admissions per day, which was a feat. The film ran there for almost 20 days.

Unique screen screen culture in Jamnagar
With an amber closure, no single screen cinema now works in Jamnagar. At one point, the city of Gujarat had nearly 7 theaters like Deepak, Anupam, Jayshree, Galaxy, etc. Currently, three theaters, all multiplexes, direct operations – stainless steel Crystal Mall, Mehul Cinemas and PVR Utsav JCR Entertainment. The first two are in the city while the last one is located on the outskirts and also consists of a theater by car.
