America’s world number four, Jessica Pegula beat the Australian veteran Ajla Tomljanovic 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 Saturday to reserve a force test with the compatriot Amount McCartney Kessler during the WTA tournament in Austin, Texas. Kessler defeated the Belgian Gree Minnen 7-5, 6-4. Pegula ran through the first set thanks to seven double defects from Tomljanovic. The Australian settled in the second to force the decision maker, but Pegula came out of a trio of breaks with a 3-1 advance in the third and has comfortably closed the match.
“We were a little touched with our services today,” said Pegula, who has been hunting a seventh career title and his first since his victory for the 1000 event in Toronto last year.
It was one of the two PEGULA titles in a season in 2024 in which she also reached the United States final.
Kessler, ranked 56th in the world and sown fifth, took advantage of the 10 double defects of Minnen to reserve his third appearance in the WTA final.
The first two gave titles – in Cleveland last August and in Hobart in January.
Last month, the 25 -year -old woman won her first career victory against a top 10 player when she upset Coco Gauff in the second round in Dubai.
