On IPL vs PSL Debate, Ex-CSK Star Sam Billings’ Cheeky “Want Me To Say Something Silly” Take

The England’s ticket office, Sam Billings, was invited to appoint the best T20 league based on the franchise in the world. Billings, who is currently playing for the Qalandars Lahore in the Super League Pakistan (PSL), suggested that the Indian Premier League (IPL) was well in advance on all the other T20 leagues in the world. Billings, who invented during the 2025 IPL auction, played for the last time in the tournament in 2022, representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Billings added that PSL competes with “The Hundred” in England and “Big Bash League” in Australia for the second best T20 League in the world.

“You want me to say something stupid, isn’t it? The great thing about the cricket is that wherever you go around the world, you have to adapt to the conditions. Conditions – playing in India, Pakistan, Australia and England – you must adapt as a cricket player,” said Billings, during a press conference.

“It is difficult to classify all competitions. But, I think it is difficult to look beyond IPL like the first competition. It is quite obvious. All the other competitions are just late. In England, we are trying to do the same thing, like the PSL, to be the second best competition in the world. Big Bash is trying to do the same thing.”

Billings, however, insisted that it was difficult to compare the league because the conditions are different everywhere.

“I think it’s difficult to compare. Each competition brings out different challenges. I am grateful to be able to browse the world and play cricket and make people smile. I would not exchange this work for nothing,” he added.

Billings has played five seasons in the IPL since its beginnings in 2016 when he represented the Capitals of Delhi. He then played for CSK in 2018 and 2019, before his last visit to IPL, for the moment, for KKR in 2022.

In PSL, Billings represents Lahore Qalandars since 2023.
