“Box Isn’t Getting Ticked But…”: DC Skipper Axar Patel Backs Struggling Jake Fraser-McGurk

The skipper of Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel, conceded that his team had struggled with the trembling departures with Jake Fraser-McGurk so as not to shoot this season yet, but supported the Australian to change the situation once he has found his pace. The 23-year-old opener, who lit the tournament in his first season last year with his power, seemed a shadow of himself in this edition. His ongoing difficulties at the top continued in DC’s dramatic victory against the Royals of Rajasthan, while he perished inside the power game for the fifth time this season.
“I have a different opinion. If you don’t start, we are still going well. So you have this cushion that you can go from the same team,” Axar told journalists on Wednesday.
“So I thought, the box is not checking but at the same time as we win and it is such a player, that the day he arrives, he will give you the match.”
I remember: axar on the captain
While the IPL reaches its stage halfway, the versatile jovial became the most successful captain of the tournament, heading to five wins in six games.
“I was a captain for state cricket, I know what to do and what not to do. And when you have the chance to manage the team as you wish and to play as you want to play, so why not,” said Axar.
Axar, who directed his Gujarat of the state team in 23 games between the formats, said that he was not the type to rely strongly on the analysis or models of prescribed captain.
“I do what I think is right and do not follow a model. I support myself. I am not a captain for the first time. There is planning, that is to say for my conscience that what is happening, how the other team plays. Obviously, sometimes it works.
“But as a captain, I see who is in good shape, how their day takes place, what they can do and what they cannot. I choose according to the situation. I am not completely focused on the data,” he added.
Against RR, the impact of Axar was not only with the strategy. After a series of discreet outings, he finally delivered a revealing performance with Bat and Ball.
Its 14-ball 34 provided Delhi Le Boost if necessary.
“I thought I was struck in the last years and a half. But when I came to this tournament, I could not create an impact. I don’t know if it was a gentle dismissal or something. I was going out too aggressively. But when I went today, I was clear. I knew who I wanted to target.” With the ball, he snatched his first window of the season by Bamboozling Riyan Parag. Asked about his disappointing yields, Axar reiterated that an injury to the fingers suffered during the Champions Trophy had retained it.
“I underwent a cut on my finger during the champions trophy. The skin is still to come. Each time I work, the skin stands out. So I could. I could not lead to my speed. So I felt that I bowl but I was not able to get the impact I want.”
Du Plessis could play the next game
DC FAF DC vice-captain missed the last two games of the team, against the Mumbai Indians and the Royals of Rajasthan, due to an unpertified injury.
“I was told that he would not be able to play three games – this is the moment when he needed to recover – and two games are made. Maybe he will play the Gujarat game. But the physio must confirm how his rehabilitation was gone,” said Axar.
