However, the changes reached a high cost for Anaya, which was said by her own father that there was no more space for her in cricket. Already in a fight against society, fighting against the conflict of mind and the demons of the outside world, Anaya had to abandon the sport which it loved duly.
In an interview on Lallantop, Anaya spoke of her decision to leave cricket. While the subject was naturally sensitive, since the message came from his father, Anaya said that her Sanjay clearly indicated that there was no space for her in cricket in the future. Here’s how the conversation went.
Interviewer: “You said your father asked you to stop playing cricket because there is no more space for you in sport.”
Anaya: “I don’t want to talk about my father in this interview.”
Interviewer: “The video is already available in the public domain. You have mentioned it yourself, I only quote you.”
Anaya: “Yes, I am aware of that. He just said that there is no room for me in the cricket. I had to take a stand for myself. I had suicidal thoughts because it seemed to me that the whole world was against me and the decision that I grabbed (hormonal therapy no longer becomes there for me.”
“I still had space for me from the point of view of the family. But it was not there in society, cricket or the outside world.”
Further in the interview, Anaya also revealed that a senior cricket player had sent her nudes, hoping to sleep with her after having known the transformation.
“I played with well-known cricket players like Musheer Khan, Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal. I had to keep me secret because my father is a well-known figure. The world of cricket is filled with insecurity and toxic masculinity,” she added.
“There has been support and there were also harassment. There were some cricket players who sent me random photos.”
“The person used to give Galis in front of everyone. The same person then came to sit next to me and ask for my photos. In another case, when I was in India, I spoke to a veteran cricket player of my situation. He told me to go to the car. I want to sleep with you,” she said.
