India, Sri Lanka, South Africa to play women’s ODI tri-series in April-May

Sri Lanka will host India and South Africa for a female Tri-series ODI in April and May, the SLC announced on Thursday. This tri-series was not part of the Future Tours program originally.

Each team will play the others twice – which makes four team games – before the two best teams play in the final. The series will start with the hosts of Sri Lanka who will face India. All will be day matches, played at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo from April 27 to May 11.

Sri Lanka is currently on the tour of a white ball in New Zealand, while most Indian players participate in the WPL at home. Some South African players are also at WPL. Until this tri-series is announced, the next international assignment in South Africa was a Antilles tour in June.

This tri-series will give the three teams an additional preparation time in the head of the Odi World Cup in October this year in India.

Sri Lanka is currently champion of the Asian Cup, while South Africa had reached the semi-finals of the last ODI World Cup in 2022, after eliminating India in the stadiums of the League. India is however the highest of three in third – South Africa is fourth and Sri Lanka seventh – in the ICC ODI ranking.
