Alexander Zverev, number three in Germany, celebrated his 28th birthday with style on Sunday as ATP Munich with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against the American Ben Shelton. The Zverev, seeded, appearing during his first final since his loss against Jannik Sinner in Australian Open Title Decdider in January, had little trouble dealing with Shelton, ranked 15 in the world. For Zverev, it was the third time he won in Munich – equaling the record of the compatriot of Philipp Kohlschreiber – and his 24th ATP title in total. Unlike his quarter-final victory over the Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands, where Zverev was to come from a shoot to win, the German was in control from the start against the 22-year-old American.
Zverev forced Shelton to several errors, before converting his first match point after only 71 minutes.
His victory means that Carlos Alcaraz must win in Barcelona later on Saturday to remain the world’s number two.
Sunday’s Victory of Zverev represents a welcome return to the form for him.
After losing against Sinner in Melbourne, Zverev failed to exceed the districts of six successive tournaments, before coming to Munich.
The German, the most comfortable on clay, said on several occasions that he was not concerned about his form and was concentrated on the Open of France, which begins at the end of May.
The winners of the tournament pocket almost half a million euros ($ 570 million), as well as a luxury car for sponsors and a pair of traditional lederhosen brief leather pants.
