The Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI) has not yet announced the list of central contracts for this year and according to a report by Dainik Jagran, it may have great news for the higher members of the Indian Cricket team. The report said that discussions concerning the central contracts of the BCCI will take place at the high -level meeting on March 29 in Gowahati. While the Indian team of the test series against England will be the top priority at the meeting, the central contracts would also be on the agenda. The report also indicates that “the selection committee is divided on the future of some of the great stars of India” and that the new list could carry surprises for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravi will Ravi will Ravi Jadeja. He added that the future of the stars will become clearer after the announcement.
Earlier, a report by Times of India, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravi will Jadeja could end up losing their A +grade contracts.
The report said that players who excel in the three formats have a preference for Grade A + contracts and that the T20 trio retirement complicated the questions.
The report added that central contracts are generally announced before the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the BCCI decided to wait until the end of the Champions Trophy.
However, a good show in the Champions Trophy can mean that the three can keep the upper level of central contracts. The only other cricket player with a Grade A + contract is the fast launcher Jasprit Bumrah, but there seems to be no problem with his situation.
According to the report, Shreyas Iyer should receive a central contract after being ignored last year due to disciplinary problems. The striker has brilliantly played in the Champions Trophy and his performance on the domestic circuit will certainly strengthen his case.
“The board of directors will wait for Rohit’s decision after the champions trophy. If, by chance, he chooses to retire, the board of directors will see what must be done. We cannot reduce the fact that he won the T20 World Cup in July and also led in the Champions Trophy,” a source told you.
