English-born psychological thriller Maya Ko MayaTitled by Vinay Pathak (Bheja Fry, Khosla Ka Ghosla), the star of Nepal Anna Sharma (Aktor, the man of Katmandu), Saloni Batra (Animal, Soni) and Satyajeet Dubey (Mumbai Diaries 26/11, Prassthanam), packed his photograph in principle, announced on Friday. The thriller is produced by Jyadro Films, a Driver Inc. company with the first independent cinema studio, Platoon One Films, known for independent gems like Sir (Cannes) and Ghaath (Berlinale), on board as a key creative consultant. Presented as a captivating story of self -discovery and love, the film follows the journey of its protagonist, Maya, which fights against the weight of societal expectations and turns into a form of therapy, triggering an emotional storm that threatens to reshape everything that she knows. Maya Ko Maya Explore identity, tradition and struggle for authenticity in a world taken between past and present.
Vinay Pathak described filming in Nepal as a “deeply transformative experience” and said that the country was a living and breathing character in the film. “”Maya Ko Maya reveals a side of Nepal that the world has rarely seen – raw, intimate and powerful. A land that contains both beauty and pain in one breath, a bit like Maya’s journey. Anna Sharma described the film as “powerful psychological thriller”, which – although ends in Nepal – proceeds in universal emotions. “It was a really enriching experience to give life to this complex character, and work alongside the legendary Vinay Pathak made the journey all the more unforgettable,” said Anna.
Saloni Batra said that the wrap in the film felt like leaving behind a “wild and beautiful storm” and added: “My character did not correspond to the mold. She is ferocious, disorderly, hopeful and free. Filming in Nepal was a treat in itself. Landscapes, energy and people added something real to history and the way I approached the character.”
“This film was a work of love,” said director Rohit Karan Baidya, known for life on the Nepal road (projected to the Singapore independent film Festival and Indiefilm Fest, California) and the Wild Cooks nominated at the Royal Television Society.
“What started as occasional interviews in 2019 has evolved in something urgently and necessary. Maya Ko Maya is a voice for those who have been forced in silence, and a confrontation of invisible violence that persists even in progressive societies, “added the filmmaker.
Satyajeet Dubey said he had been attracted to the film because of the way his character was “uncomfortably human.” In this film, nothing is black or white. We are all trapped in shades of gray. It is a psychological thriller, yes, but also a deeply intimate exploration of guilt, control and deleted desire, “he added.
The casting of the film was directed by Platoon Collective, the Talent Management Division of Platoon One Films, in collaboration with Driver Inc. Platoon One Films will also facilitate the distribution and international sales of the film.
