“I Do Not Want Jasprit Bumrah To Be Made Captain…”: Ravi Shastri Blunt about His Two Picks For Test Captaincy

The former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri gave his point of view on the vacuum of the Captain of Test in India after the retirement of the elders Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, suggesting two young people who could be treated in the future. Shastri discussed the candidates to take over the post of captain with the host Sanjana Ganesan in the last episode of the CPI review, urging the selectors to prioritize the future and not to load the pace of India the Maestro Jasprit Bumrah with the captain. “You see, for me, Jasprit would have been the obvious choice after Australia,” said Shastri.

“But I don’t want Jasprit to be made captain, then you lose it as a bowling player,” he added as cited by the ICC.

Bumrah has directed India in three matches so far, their 295 points on Australia in Perth being a highlight. He lost two of his other games against England and Australia as a captain, far from his home.

He cited Bumrah’s recent struggle with a back injury suffered in the last match of the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Sydney. The 31 -year -old man was absent for almost three months from early January to April, also missed the victorious campaign of the ICC ICC Champions Trophy in India.

“I think he (Bumrah) must take his body one match at a time. He now comes back after a serious injury,” said Shastri.

“He will have played the IPL cricket, which is the cricket four towards several. Now the Bowling 10 Overs test, 15 Overs. And the last thing you want is also a pressure on his mind the captain.”

Rather than adding pressure to the emergency spear of India, Shastri supported Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pants as potential prospects to take care of the captain, with their age and their longevity the main factors behind this choice.

“You are preparing someone, and I would say that Shubman looked very well. Give him the opportunity. He is 25, 26, even gave him time,” said Shastri.

“There is also Rishabh. I think these two are the most obvious I look at because of their age, and they have a decade in front of them. So let them learn,” he added.

Shastri also underlined the fact that with the recent retirement of Rohit and Virat Kohli of Test Cricket, India must hope for the future, justifying more pants or branchies as a choice for the role.

The duo also has leadership experience, captain of their franchises (Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans) in the Indian Premier League.

“They have experience as captains, now, captain of their franchise, and that makes a difference,” noted Shastri.

“The little one that I saw of Shubman looks very interesting. Composed, calm, he has all the qualities,” said Shastri by congratulating the temperament of striker n ° 1 in the ICC Odi Player ranking.

The Indian legend also canceled the concerns about the form of Gill abroad and supported him to do a Breakthrough Away tour soon. Until now, in 15 outdoor games, Gill has scored 716 points at an average of 27.53 disappointing, with only a century and two fifties in 28 sleeves. Since his emblematic Knock of 91 at Gabba, who helped India win the series, he has not marked half a century in South Africa, England, New Zealand or Australia (Sena), success is important for Indian strikers.

“You will talk to you, he has not scored points abroad. You know, this subject always comes, not races abroad,” he said

“Sometimes I tell them, go see your own record, how much did you do abroad? Abroad, abroad, let him play, let him run abroad, then he will score races. He is a class player.”

Gill was an Indian vice-captain of the ODI part, and even the captain of India in a T20I series in Zimbabwe.

The visitors emerged triumphant by a margin of 4-1 while Gill scored 170 points on his five rounds striking a standard of 125.92 with a highest score of 66 of the 23-point victory against Zimbabwe in the third T20i.

“He has a decade of cricket in front of him for the country,” said Shastri.

“And I’m sure he will crack in one of the tours, he will compensate for all these races that he did not get earlier,” he added.
