Shubman Gill Spoke To Gautam Gambhir For ‘4-5 Hours’, Also Met BCCI Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar Amid Captaincy Race

Shubman Gill, according to several reports, is the favorite to succeed Rohit Sharma now retired as test captain of the Indian Cricket team Nest. Rohit Sharma, under which India entered the last final of the world world test championship in 2023, announced his retirement on May 7. Since then, there has been intense speculation on the next Test captain of India. Most reports said Shubman Gill will succeed Rohit Sharma before Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Kl Rahul. A report in India time Now said Gill had recently met the coach of India Gautam Gambir at his residence in Delhi and spoke for four to five hours. He also said that the BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar had met Gill on May 6 after an IPL 2025 match at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
The BCCI considers Shubman Gill as a long -term captain option. “He has shown impressive leadership qualities in the way he directed GT, who is currently at the top of the table this season,” said the report cited a BCCI source. With a new WTC cycle from the tour in England, the BCCI wishes to build a team around it.
Shubman Gill could be favorable for having succeeded Rohit Sharma as a test skipper from India during the tour in England, but the former Spinner R Ashwin said that other experienced names such as Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi will Ravira Jadeja should also be taken into account for the hot seat.
