“If We Wanted To Expose Someone…”: Cheteshwar Pujara On Australia Tour ‘Phone Call Leak’ To NDTV

The wife of Chetehwar Pujara Puja, made astounding revelations in his book “The Diary of A Cricket’s Wife: a very unusual Memoir”, telling the journey of her husband to become one of the most reliable test strikers that the nation has produced. While Pujara has become the new Mr. Mr. Ferable for the White team, the last two years have seen his career graph drop, the team looking at younger alternatives. However, we cannot still forget the performances he produced in Australia, in particular during the 2018-2019 tour, which saw India ensure a very first test of tests of tests.
However, on this series, there have also been talks that Pujara was abandoned from the team. Although the striker was not supposed to know this conversation, he heard a conference on the phone and was naturally shaken.
Pujara’s wife had to work hard to draw this revelation from the cricket player, and also wrote about it in her book. However, the couple decided not to appoint the person who wanted Pujara to be abandoned from the team, ensuring that no controversy is created.
In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Pujara and his wife talked about this particular extract from the book which made the headlines.
“The idea of writing this incident was not to describe it. The idea was to know how he kept his calm and did not affect himself, showed courage and resilience.
“I don’t think he knows it,” said Pujara when he was asked if the person described in the incident knows that he is written in the book.
Puja also intervened and said: “I don’t think anyone knows. The goal is only one thing in 2 lines and not what has been highlighted.”
Pujara then explained that the intention behind the writing of the episode was not to exhibit anyone, therefore, the name of the person was not mentioned in the book.
“The name of the person is not there in the book for a reason. If we wanted to exhibit someone … I do not want to expect it, yes, I was disappointed with what was said. But, at the same time, you are advancing, you look at the bigger image. When you represent the country, your work is to win matches for the Indian team. I contribute to the success of the team.
“There were a lot of things at stake, my father was not good. There were a lot of thoughts when I was going to play the Sydney test but at the same time, but I knew that Puja was taking care of my father. So I was relieved,” said Pujara.
