After the surprise success of Jaanwar (1999), Suneel Darshan found himself on a creative summit. The full -acting emotional drama had not only revived the career of Akshay Kumar at the time, but also marked a turning point for Darshan as a storyteller known to mix the commercial flair with a strong feeling. On this moment, he was ready to start working on another story -focused action artist, once again with Akshay in mind.
When a trip to Indore has changed everything for Suneel Darshan – How Rishta – A love link was born with Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan
The plan was in motion – the subject was locked, the first song was already recorded and the basics of launching the film had quietly started. But fate had other ideas.
In early 2000, Darshan made a routine trip to Indore to check the operations of his distribution office there. But the change of environment sparked something unexpected. An old story – that has lingered in his mind for years – has suddenly returned with a renewed emergency. “It was like something that changed,” recalls a source close to the filmmaker. “He couldn’t ignore him anymore.”
Returning to Mumbai, Suneel did what he has always done at a creative crossroads – he told his mother the story. Deeply moved, she encouraged him to put the draft action and continue it instead. She thought that this story had the potential to help her grow as a director, emotionally and artistically.
Suneel then turned to his Jaanwar Star, Akshay Kumar, who surprisingly gave the same reaction. History has touched a sensitive string and Akshay agreed instantly. It was a different tone from their usual collaborations, but both estimated that it was the right decision.
The biggest surprise came when Suneel approached Amitabh Bachchan. Always at the top on his second round after-Mohabbatein And Kabhi Khushi Kabhie GhamBig B made a fast head sign. He would have been impressed by the emotional depth of the story and the character in diapers he would have played.
And just like that, Rishta – A Link of Love was officially launched – a multi -scaper which promised to mix the family drama with the power of the stars.
