Formula 1 Boss Stefano Domenicali To Visit Thailand, To Begin Talks For Race In Bangkok

Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicini will go to Bangkok next week after the Australian Grand Prix for discussions on a potential race in the Thai capital, he told Sky Sports. The former Italian boss of Ferrari, who has just extended his contract to remain the president of Formula one and director until 2029, wishes to examine new markets because sport in popularity. The majority of the 24-races of the 24-races of the one formula is locked up for several years, but the Dutch Grand Prix of Zandvoort is only guaranteed until 2026. The Belgian Grand Prix concluded an agreement in January to allow it to stay on the calendar for four over six years from 2026-2031 in order to adapt to new races.
Domenicimi seemed to suggest that Thailand was a competitor, among other sites, to join the calendar.
“The good thing we have been able to do in the past two years has been to focus on places which, in our view, represent the future of Formula 1,” he told British broadcaster in Melbourne.
“In terms of promoters and tracks that we are already, we have a long -term standing agreement with many of them which allows them to invest, improve the installation, improve the quality of the entertainment that we must give to our fans.
“We receive a lot of attention from other places in the world,” he added.
“After finishing the race here in Melbourne, I go to Bangkok to see (if) there is a potential interest in developing something there.”
Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin welcomed Domenicinitali in April of last year to present the government’s vision to bring a grand prize to the sprawling capital and curly by traffic.
Thai officials said at the time that they planned that the race takes place on a street circuit, perhaps in the historic center of the city.
Thailand is one of the many countries wishing to join the F1 circuit.
The historic hosts of France and Germany do not appear on the 2025 calendar and seek to return, while the Turkish Grand Prix, held for the last time in 2021, is considered a candidate to take one of the vacant slots by the Belgian agreement.
Apart from Europe, Rwanda provides for a new circuit near the capital Kigali.
The Asia -Pacific region is currently organizing four races – in Australia, China, Japan and Singapore.
