Hera Pheri Row: producer Firoz Nadiadwala slaps Netflix with legal notice on the character of Baburao

Lawyer Sana Raees Khan, who represents Nadiadwala, published a clear statement highlighting the gravity of the alleged violation. She pointed out: “Intellectual property is not an occasional question of borrowing, it is the cornerstone of creativity. The unauthorized exploitation of the emblematic character of my client is not only a violation, it is theft in its most blatant commercial form.

While Nadiadwala himself has not issued an official comment, the move signals his intention to protect the heritage of the series of cult comedy. Actor Paresh Rawal gave life to Baburao Hera Pheri (2000), produced by Priyadarshan, and later in Phir Hera Pheri (2006), directed by the late Neeraj Vora. Alongside Rawal, Akshay Kumar as Raju and Suniel Shetty as a shyam formed the emblematic trio that has transformed films into lasting blockbusters.

The same trio is defined to come back to Hera Pheri 3With Priyadarshan realizing again. Nadiadwala’s legal stage therefore reflects a broader concern concerning the preservation of the brand’s value of the characters who have an immense cultural meaning in Indian cinema.

The question also underlines how disputes concerning intellectual property and personality rights have become more and more common in Bollywood. Earlier this year, actor Abhishek Bachchan approached the High Court of Delhi, seeking to remember the unauthorized use of his name, his image, his voice and his performances. During a brief hearing, judge Tejas Karia observed that search engines could be invited to eliminate violation links if specific URLs were provided.

Cases like these highlight increasing awareness of the entertainment industry on the protection of creative and personal rights at a time of rapid digital proliferation.
