Generated by Varsha Bharath in his glorious first feature film, the film of maturity is titled by actor Anjali Sivaraman, playing a teenager navigating on love and lust in Chennai. After opening the Tamil Nadu earlier this month, manufacturers of Bad girl Will now publish the film in Hindi due to the growing requests for the public.
Anurag Kashyap, who went on board as a presenter, says Bad girl is “one of the most original stories” he met. “When I read it for the first time, it reminded me of how, as a young filmmaker, I wanted to tell daring stories, and Varsha exceeded all my expectations and made it an excellent film. It is a voice to watch, and we are happy to release the film in Hindi, because we know that it is a story that will relate to each girl who grows in the country.”
Supported by the Grass Root Company of Vetrimaaran, with Ranjan Singh as an executive producer, Bad girl Also put in Shanthipriya star. The film will be distributed by Flip Films.
Varsha says that the film was born out of a need to tell a story that seemed honest to the world that she sees around her – “only one where women are constantly defined, confined and judged.”
“Thanks to the film, I wanted to question the very idea of the labels and the ease with which they are used to reduce women. For me, the realization of this as my beginnings was both liberating and intimidating, but the trip was useful at each stage. It is important to take risks and remain faithful to your vision.”
For Anjali Sivaraman, previously seen on Netflix Classbe part of Bad girl was one of the most stimulating and enriching “experiences of his career.
“The role pushed me to face a lot of questions on identity, freedom and the judgments that women face every day. It is not often that you can live in a character who is herself shamelessly, even when the world refuses to accept it. I am really excited that the film now reaches its trip to Hindi-I think its themes are universal, and I hope that the viewers see their own.
With music composed by Amit Trivedi, Bad girl made his debut with unprecedented praise at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam, winning the prestigious netpac prize.
