It’s a whole performance in Songs of Paradise. How did the plum role come to meet you?
I read for the room. I was traveling at the time, so it was an online test on zoom. I was given a scene on site to read, and I think my director Danish Renzu decided to get started after this reading.

The accent and body language had to do a lot. How much preparation went to Noor Begum?
It took a lot of back and forth between the Danish and me to decide what the character needed physically. He wanted her to have an accent to reflect the socio-economic origin from which she came. If she had spoken in Ourdou, she would have had a heavy accent. I hesitated – it’s always a blow because you risk ringing caricature. It was a scary choice, but I’m happy to have tried. I prefer to be mistaken that not to try it at all.

You have never hit the road easy as an actor. What is a struggle for a rules of rules to keep your head out of the water in this sneak industry?
The actors are at the mercy of someone else’s imagination, so we are limited by what we are offered. In this area, my reference base has always been: “Does it excite me?” It was the engine of most of my choices. It also helps to be on the set is the end in yourself for me, not a way to reach an end.

It was a good year in the movies. Do you think the OTT platforms have given your talent a wider audience?
Yes, certainly. OTT was a shot in the arm for so many actors and technicians. I am grateful for the opportunities that it brought to me. It looked like a reaction to the limits of writing focused on the box office. Many of us who were not in the race at the Friday box office were noticed at the time. OTT has changed my career for the best.

How difficult is it to date a general public actor and be put under the spotlight when you clearly appreciate attention?
I think I’m doing well enough for an introvert.

As a person who saw the industry without business, would you advise outside the outside to try their luck?
It depends on the kind of luck we are looking for. If you are like me and your joy begins and ends on the set, then every day you use, you will feel useful. It is not easy, and rejection is part of the course – but resilience is paid most often.

What are you working on now?
I have two films and an aligned program for the release. I’m starting to shoot a series in November, which fascinates me very. At the same time, I continue to make music and tour with my two groups – Madboy / Mink and Ullou.
