Akshay Kumar counters Aamir Khan’s six-month gap between theatres and streaming releases: “OTT platforms also need to benefit from the deal” : Bollywood News

The current debate on the ideal gap between theatrical outings and the first OTT found two of the biggest Bollywood stars at the opposite ends. After Aamir Khan recently pleaded for a six -month window to protect theatrical activity, Akshay Kumar expressed his disagreement, suggesting that a shorter gap is more practical for all stakeholders.

In a conversation with ABP Live, Akshay stressed that the OTT platforms, which invest massively in digital rights, also deserve fair treatment. “In my opinion, a three-month difference is correct. Six months is too long because at the end of the day, the OTT platform pays you for digital rights. They must also benefit from the agreement,” he said.
The actor-producer added that the industry should go back to the pre-pandemic model, where theaters and streaming platforms coexisted friction. “With regard to the sale of digital rights, producers have happily take money on the OTT platform. But when we want, we also say conveniently that our films do not work because of OTT. We do not consider that we may not make the right films,” he said.
Akshay admitted that he would consume a large amount of OTT content himself, not only for entertainment but also for scouting talents for his own projects. “I have no other work than to make films. As I am not educated, I only make films. So, I have a lot of time to watch OTT,” he shared. Recognizing his trip, he added: “Thirty percent is a difficult job, which should have the impression of having done 100% hard work, but you also need this chance of 70% to get there. When I participate in a studio, I often see a better fighter, a better dancer and who does a better action than me, but he has not yet been lucky. ”
His comments arise in the context of the evolutionary perspective of Aamir Khan on the theatrical window at the Otte. THE Laal Singh Chaddha Star has long criticized the narrowing gap, blaming it for the drop in steps in cinemas. After Kiran Rao Ladies laapataa Subperform in theater but found an immense popularity when he left Netflix, Aamir doubled on his call for a minimum difference of six months.
Currently, most films are following a theatrical model with eight -week digital.
