Scheduled to go out in theaters on September 5, Bengal files Immerses in the riots of Calcutta of August 16, 1946, launched by the call of the Muslim League of all India for the “day of direct action”.

Agnihotri recounted the setback series facing the launch of the trailer: it was initially canceled by a multiplex, then went to a hotel where power suddenly extinguished, and the police finally intervened to wonder if appropriate authorizations had been obtained.

“We will go through the Constitution. We will go legally. If we will stop, we will follow the legal course. What can we do? We are common citizens like you … We will pray that mental health prevails and that the government of the State does not do it, “said the director, directly contesting the government of Mamata Banerjee, led by the Government of TMC for an alleged suppression of the film.

Tackling the controversy involving Gopal Chandra Mukherjee – whose grandson Santanu Mukherjee recorded a FIR claiming that the film depicts its grandfather as a “butcher” – Agnihtri said that the character is “an inspired and non -central character of the intrigue”. He added: “I will not enter his story. Look at Santanu’s interview. I can give you all the links. There is an interview with Gopal Mukherjee on the BBC. In this interview, what he said, we only showed many. I have nothing to do with a hero. ”

He said, “I respect Gopal Mukherjee a lot. His grandsons work with TMC. There is a constraint there … They did so legally. We give ourselves a legal answer to that. ”

Agnihotri has developed his work as an effort to advance “Indold Stories of India”, explaining: “Our goal is very clear. I make films on Hindu civilization. This is why I make films on Hindu history. I do not consider myself capable of making films on Islamic history or Christian history. ”
