Pablo Barrios seized Atletico Madrid a 2-1 victory in Seville on Sunday to offer the Diego Simeone team a lifeline in the Spanish title race. After the Barcelona leaders attracted on Saturday and Real Madrid fell for a home defeat, Atletico, third, had the chance to regain ground on their rivals. The draw for Atletico in Espanyol last weekend left them practically outside the title race, and despite their last victory, they drag Barcelona with eight games to play.
“We needed this, to come to Seville is a difficult place to go … The team, after conceding the first goal, gathered and obtained the result we wanted,” said Atletico midfielder Koke, Movistar.

Seville took the lead early when Atletico cleared a cross on the edge of their box, Agoume arriving to hit the ball after Jan Oblak.
Atletico leveled when Conor Gallagher broke out in the box and was grouped by Loic Bade.
Alvarez, who had a controversial penalty overwhelmed for a supposed double contact on the ball while Atletico was eliminated from the Champions League by Real Madrid, sent it easily.
The Argentinian international sent to Orjan Nyland in the wrong direction for his 12th league goal of a strong first season at Atletico after joining Manchester City last summer.
Oblak made a good stop to deny Akor Adams, with Seville attractive for a penalty without success after the goalkeeper collided with the striker with the consequences.
Oblak also denied Chidera Ejuke to his nearby post, while Alvarez threatened sporadically for visitors to the other end.
