The Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI) announced annual central contracts for the 2024-25 season, marking the return of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, which were excluded from the 2023-24 list. Only four players have reached category A + – Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravira will Jadeja. A number of young and future cricket players like Rajat Patidar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, etc. also received their first contract.
Central contracts are divided into 4 categories – A +, A, B, C – Depending on the performance and participation of players on three formats. There were speculations on the release of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja from category A + (higher support offering an annual salary of 7 inr crores) after their retirement from the T20 internationals, but the trio was kept by the board of directors.
The duo of Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer was excluded from the last central contract by the BCCI for certain disciplinary questions. While Iyer has already returned to the Indian team in ODI format, Kishan has shown promising signs in the current campaign IPL 2025.
Iyer, in fact, also played an instrumental role in the winning campaign of the Indian team champions earlier this year. Iyer returned to the grade B category while Ishan was added to the Grade C support.
