Boxer Nishant Dev Eyes Olympic Success Through Pro Stint

The Indian Pugilist Nishant must think that his passage in the physically demanding professional circuit will help him to develop endurance, which will be essential when he will take another chance of realizing his Olympic dream during the Los Angeles 2028 Games. In amateur boxing, a fight lasts a maximum of nine minutes with three shots of three minutes each while in professional boxing, the fights can stretch up to 12 laps. “One of the biggest reasons to become professional was that my endurance and endurance were weak. To improve this, I joined professional boxing, so that I am used to playing more latles in pro and when I will come back to amateur boxing, I can manage three laps,” said Dev on the last day of the national female championships.
The bronze medalist in the average weight of the 2023 world championship field (71 kg), DEV, was one of India’s most coherent boxers in recent years.
He signed a three -year contract with Match Boxing, which will end a year before the Los Angeles Olympic Games, where he hoped to stand at the top of the podium.
“Closer to the Olympic Games, my contract ends. So I’m going to return to India and play the qualifications,” said Boxing has returned to the Olympic list.
BFI president Ajay Singh also kept the open door for Dev’s return to the national team.
“We will choose the best boxers for the Olympic or Pro Games. Nishage is certainly one of the best we have in this country,” said Singh.
Dev also aspires to fight for the belt of the World Boxing Council (WBC) like the legends Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson.
“I want to create a heritage. There is no world champion in professional boxing in India. But I want to play for the belt after having become the Olympic champion and I want to fight for the belt in India. Bring professional boxing to the country.” The Haryana boxer is still struggling with the frustration of two controversial divided decision -making losses – against Omari Jones in the United States during the first world Olympic qualifications in Italy and Marco Verde in the quarter -finals of the Paris Games.
“People say that you won the first round and that you lost the third round (against Verde). But I watched the video 100,000 times and I did not have the impression of losing. Even in the last round, he won 10 to 12 times. The referee did not see this, made the blind eye. There was partiality.” The 24 -year -old hopes that the new world leader organ – world boxing will address the sport rating system.
“I spoke to the World Boxing President in Thailand. He had seen my fight against Omari and he thought there was partiality. He said he would improve as much as possible. There will be no bias with boxers.
“It is very difficult to digest when a winning boxer loses. It’s worse than a normal loss. I hope something will happen.” Dev made a spectacular professional start, demolishing Alton Wiggins in the United States. His next fight is expected between April and June.
Currently based in the United States, Dev trains under coach Ronald Simms, competing in American and European fighters. His three -month training experience was a transformer.
“There is a big change in mentality. The mentality of American and European boxers is much higher than Indian boxers. There are also a lot of changes in the training. Since there are more laps compared to the amateur, you must make more efforts.
“There is no time limit. You can train each time. If you feel that you are missing something in the middle of the night, boxers with a higher mentality wake up in the middle of the night and opt,” he added.
