Sport had succeeded in a major obstacle when the IOC board of directors recognized world boxing on Monday as the federation to supervise sport. He ended years of divisions in the way sport – which has appeared in all the Olympic Games since 1904, with the exception of Stockholm in 1912, because it was prohibited from Swedish law – is managed. The IOC intervened to organize boxing tournaments at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2021 and the Paris Olympic Games last year after having broken with the International Boxing Association led by Russian on financial, governing and ethical concerns.

CIO President Thomas Bach warned that national boxing federations should find a new “reliable” international partner if he wanted to be included during the 2028 Games.

Last month, the IOC was temporarily recognized world boxing and body to supervise sport at future Olympic Games and Thursday the IOC session swapped this decision.

The president of world boxing, Boris Van der Vorst, said in a press release: “World boxing is very grateful to the IOC for the faith they have placed in our organization by restoring boxing on the La2028 program, and I can reassure them that we will make everything that is in power to ensure that we operate according to the highest standards of governance and transparency and transparency.”

The former Olympic Boxing Champions welcomed the green light for the inclusion of sport in 2028.

Ukraine Wladimir Klitschko, who took gold at the 1996 Atlanta Games, said: “It’s a fantastic news. Winning Olympic gold was one of the biggest highlights of my career and I would hate to see that the opportunity is withdrawn from future generations.

“The Olympic Games are so important for our sport and not being a part of it would have been a disaster for boxing and boxers around the world, professionals.”

This is one of the last votes to lead under Bach, whose 12 -year mandate is coming to an end.

His successor as president will be decided during a vote later Thursday.

There are seven candidates, with the veteran of the precursors of the IOC Juan Antonio Samaranch Junior, the president of the world of athletics Sebastian Coe and the former Olympic swimmer Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe.
