The contingents of Punjab Kings and Delhi were evacuated Friday from Dharamsala and were escorted at Jalandhar station in lots through Hoshiarpur in the middle of tight security, revealed the Superintendent of the Kanggra police. The squads are currently in transit to New Delhi aboard a special train, said the manager. The IPL match between Punjab and Delhi was canceled Thursday halfway after Pakistan tried to invade the airspace near Chandigarh with a drone attack, forcing Indian reprisals. “Friday morning, all the contingents of the two teams, including players, coaches and broadcasting staff, was transferred to around 40 to 50 small vehicles from Dharamsala to Hoshiarpur, located on the Punjab border,” said the official.

She said that this convoy had been escorted by Kanggra police and that the Punjab police took care of the security arrangements once the vehicles have reached Hoshiarpur.

From there, they were transferred to Jalandhar to board the specially organized train.

Speaking on the evacuation process on Thursday, Agnihotri said: “The stadium was eliminated within 20 minutes. Our first priority was the security of all. Earlier in the day, the IPL was suspended due to the military confrontation, which was triggered by the terrorist attack from April 22 to April 22 during which 26 people were shot.

The BCCI said that the national interest prevails over other considerations at a time when the country responds to a terrorist attack and an unjustified aggression on the other side of the border.
