Crystal Palace Win First Major Title In 21st Century, Shock Manchester City In FA Cup Final 2025

Crystal Palace amazed Manchester City on Saturday to win the FA Cup for the first time while Ebelechi Eze sealed a 1-0 victory that stacked the misery on the troubled side of Pep Guardiola. Eze’s early strike rocked City before Palais goalkeeper Dean Henderson saved Omar Marmoush’s penalty at the end of the first half of a dramatic final in Wembley. Although Eze’s clinical finish was the culmination of its remarkable rise in rejection by Arsenal, Fulham and Millwall as a young person, Henderson became the hero of Palace with a series of superb stops. City will protest that Henderson should have been sent for handball in the first half outside of its penalty area.

But Henderson took advantage of this controversial moment to make sure that Palace won the first major trophy in their 120 -year history and a place in the Europa League for next season.

Beaten by Manchester United during his previous appearances in the FA Cup final in 1990 and 2016, the Palace shock victory was no more than what they deserved, because City once again imploded in a lamentable season which will be their first without major argentie since 2016-2017.

After winning the Premier League in the previous four seasons, City endured a turbulent campaign that ranks among the worst career in Guardiola.

Currently sixth in the Premier League, the city welcomes the city of Bournemouth on Tuesday and went to Fulham on May 25 while they are trying to save their miserable year by qualifying at least for the Champions League.

Guardiola had questioned his players’ hunger because they failed to keep the pace with Liverpool in the title race and collapsed from the Champions League.

Although desire may not have been a problem against Palace, the lack of management of City in their second successive final defeat of the FA Cup was an alarming sign for the future because Guardiola was extinguished by the boss of the Eagles Oliver Glasner.

Not for the first time, Guardiola surprised a surprise with his selection for a final when he chose an ultra-attackers program without midfielder.

Guardiola Gamble Backs

However, Guardiola’s habit of tinkering his tactics for the finals turned into the past.

Asked about City’s programming just before kick -off, Guardiola said he was putting his faith in “talent”, but Glasner had spotted an opening, saying: “When you have so many attackers, it could give you an opportunity for transitions.”

Erling Haaland almost gave City the perfect start when he spread to meet the Kevin de Bruyne cross with a volley that forced a blurred backup of Henderson.

The imposing head of Josko Gvardiol from the corner of Savinho was intelligently pushed by Henderson.

But the intelligent decision of Glasner to set up Palace at the bottom of their own half had attracted City to The Sucker Punch.

Eze delivered the direct elimination of the first palace attack in the 16th minute while the men of Glasner launched a brilliant break in their penalty zone.

Jean-Philippe Mateta raised the long pass of Chris Richards and sparked him to Daniel Munoz, who descended the right side before crossing Eze, who guided a superb volley in front of Stefan Ortega of 12 yards.

City was furious when Henderson escaped a red card when Var checked his handball, which seemed to take place outside the region, after the goalkeeper rushed to challenge Haaland.

Var said it was “not an obvious score opportunity”, but it turned out to be crucial because Henderson saved the palace in the 35th minute.

Tyrick Mitchell conceded the penalty with an unnecessary fault on Bernardo Silva while the city’s midfielder moved away from the goal.

Instead, Haaland takes the kick, it was Marmoush who intensified after the star of Norway gave him the ball in a disastrous decision while Henderson plunged to his right to prevent the strike of the Egyptian.

Henderson was in an inspired form and he again refused City, scribbling a strike from Jeremy Doku which seemed intended for the upper corner.

Defending tirelessly, Palace was indebted to Henderson, who made two brightest stops by Claudio Echeverri to top an afternoon of punishment for Guardiola.
