In his fourth round of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Priyansh Arya announced his arrival in the tournament, breaking a century for the kings of Punjab (PBKS) in their match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The 24 -year -old impressed during his beginnings with a QuickFire 47, before recording scores of 7 and 0 before the match against CSK. Talk to Hindustan TimesPriyansh’s childhood coach Sanjay Bhardwaj of Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy, whose former students include head coach Gautam Gambhir, Nitish Rana and Amit Mishra, recalled how he managed to bring the Southpaw into the Delhi U19 selection tests.
“He was not in the U19 selection process. There was a tournament that a former player in India organized. The U19 selector was Gurusharan Singh. I wanted Priyansh to appear in the tournament because I would ask that he would become the player in the series.
“By the grace of God, everything happened. Priyansh Arya gave the test match. We won the tournament. He became the player in the series. Ajay Jadeja awarded him a bat,” he added.
Priyansh, who had a basic price of RS 30 Lakh, was roped by Pbks for Rs 3.8 crores, but his friends had told him that he will not go more than Rs 1 crore.
“He is like my own child. I have always believed that Priyansh Arya would bring back a lot of auction. Priyansh told me that his friends said that he would not get more Rs. But I told his father that Priyansh would at least get RS 2,70 crores,” he said.
Addressing the PTI news agency, Bhardwaj also expressed the desire to see its service in whites in India.
“Abhi Us Pe Bahot Kaam Baaki Hai (he is a work in progress). We will work at my academy in Bhopal after IPL so that he can become a regular in Delhi in the Ranji trophy,” said Bhardwaj.
