Cricket Australia’s Blunt Message To BCCI On Foreign Players’ IPL 2025 Return

With the season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 which should resume on May 17, after having been suspended due to border tensions between India and Pakistan, many players abroad are faced with a huge dilemma on the advisability of returning or staying at home. The reports suggest that Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc are unlikely to return to India for the rest of the IPL season, while some other players must still be decided. In the middle of this situation, Cricket Australia has erased its position on the participation of Australian players in the T20 League.
Season IPL 2025 was originally to end in the final on May 25, but will not end on June 03, with the Indo-Pak battle on the border to force the authorities to extend the season. It also means that the final of the 18th edition of the T20 League would be held only a week before the final of the world championship between Australia and South Africa. Therefore, the situation places Australian and South African players in a delicate place.
By cleaning her position, Cricket Australia said she would support the personal choice of players on a return to India for the IPL. However, some arrangements should also be taken for players participating in the IPL and should also join the Australian team for the WTC final on June 11.
“Cricket Australia will support players in their individual back or not decisions in India,” said Ca in a statement.
“The management of the team will work through the preparation implications for the world testing championship final for players who choose to play in the remaining IPL matches.
“We maintain communication with the Australian government and the BCCI around safety and security arrangements.”
Among the Australian players participating in IPL, Hazlewood is sure to be absent while others like Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Josh Inglis and Mitch Starc have not yet confirmed their decision.
The Cricket Control Council in India (BCCI), on the other hand, has already asked the franchises to ask all the overseas players to come back for the IPL. The Australia Cricket message, therefore, erases their position on the issue.
