Delhi HC orders AR Rahman to deposit Rs 2 crores in copyright case over Ponniyin Selvan 2 song : Bollywood News
The High Court of Delhi managed the renowned music composer Ar Rahman and the production company Madras Talkies to deposit Rs 2 Broan with the tribunal register in a copyright violation case. The decision, rendered on April 25, also ordered them to pay rs 2 costs Lakh for Dagar. The case focuses on the song ‘Veera raja veera ‘ from the film 2023 Ponniyin Selvan 2which was accused of having copied a previous composition.

The trial was filed by the singer of the Indian classic and Padma Shri ugliness Fayaz Wasifuddin Dagar in 2023. Dagar alleged that ‘Veera raja veera ‘ breaking up Shiva StutiA composition of his father, Nasir Fayazuddin Dagar, and the uncle, Zahiruddin Dagar, known collectively under the name of Junior Dagar Brothers. He asked for a permanent injunction to prevent the use of the song, as well as the damage and recognition of moral rights.
Judge Prathiba M Singh, presiding over the case, observed that Shiva Stuti did Not just inspire ‘Veera raja veera ‘ But he was “identical”, despite minor changes. Dagar argued that the Taal, Beat and musical structure of the song was reflected Shiva StutiEven if the words differential. On the other hand, Ar Rahman argued that Shiva Stuti is a traditional composition in the public domain in the Dhrupad genre of Hindustani classical music. He also said that ‘Veera raja veera ‘ was an original work, incorporating Western musical elements with 227 distinct layers.
The provisional ordinance of the Court requires that Rahman and Madras speak to deposit Rs 2 crores while the case takes place. In addition, after initially omitted to do so, the defendants were invited to update song credits on online platforms to recognize the Junior Dagar brothers.
