Did MS Dhoni Play Too Many IPL Seasons For CSK? Sunil Gavaskar Gives Blunt Answer

For the second consecutive season, Chennai Super Kings has missed a place in the Premier Indian (IPL) qualifiers. The franchise, in all likelihood, will end among the two lower sides in the point table at 10 teams. The team’s crisis this season was such that Ms. Dhoni had to return to lead the team after the skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was injured. CSK, at present, nor a good replacement for Dhoni as a counter, an assistant captain for the future or of the players who can be banned to advance the inheritance of the team.

CSK, one of the most successful franchises in the history of the league, disappointed fans insofar as questions are raised on the franchise project in the future. Many also wonder if it is time for management to leave Dhoni as a player. There are also some who believe that Dhoni should have retired a few seasons ago. But, the great Indian cricket Sunil Gavaskar does not agree.

“Every player makes decisions not so much for himself, but for what is likely to be good for the team. Whatever the decision that MSD made about playing this season would have been based solely on what is best for CSK,” said Gavaskar in a conversation with Sports today.

“Any future decision that he takes will also depend entirely on what is good for the CSK, not necessarily what is good for himself.”

Many in the direction of the CSK believe that the team was mistaken during the auction itself this season. For CSK, Gavaskar believes that the bowling attack must be reinforced. He even said that the Chennai screening team was not tied with their rivals.

“First and foremost, they must obtain their auction strategy. I am not too sure that their screening team is as effective as those of other franchises. That said, the scouts should not rely solely on the leagues like the Jharkhand League, the UP League or others.

“Many players who dominate these leagues with large strikes often fail when they are confronted with the bowling of international quality. So, if you make talent overtake, focus more on what else. The strengthening of the bowling attack is essential if your quantities can restrict the opposition and regularly take a counters, you have a real advantage,” added Gavaskar.
