Ex-India Star In Contention To Become Spin Bowling Coach At BCCI’s COE. Not Anil Kumble Or Harbhajan Singh

The former spinner of India on the left weapon Sunil Joshi threw his hat in the ring for the post of the spin bowling coach at the BCCI’s Center of Excellence (Coe) which was released by Sairaj Bahutule earlier this year. The CEO was previously known as the National Cricket Academy when it was based at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. It remains in the city but is now operational from a new location after BCCI has bought land to build a larger installation. Bahutule resigned to become assistant coach of the IPL Rajasthan Royals franchise.
Joshi, 54, who played 15 tests and 69 ODI for India between 1996 and 2002, is currently working with Ricky Ponting in the Punjab Kings IPL team and also trained the Uttar Pradesh during the national season.
He also worked with the Bangladesh national male team as a spin bowling consultant.
According to BCCI sources, Joshi appeared for his online interview before a panel of three members including Cricket chief VVS Laxman of Cricket VVS, president of the male selection committee Ajit Agarkar and Managing Director (Cricket operations) Abbey Kuruvilla.
There were four others, who appeared for the interview in person, including the coach of the female team of India U-19, Nooshin Al Khadeer, who was confusing during his play days.
She represented the country in five tests and 78 WODIS and has been working in the configuration of the old NCA for a few years now.
Another strong candidate would be Rakesh Dhruv, a former spinner of the left arm of Gujarat and Sarashtra. The veteran out of the Spinner Pritam Gandhe, a Domestic Dean from Vidarbha, was also interviewed for the position.
When a senior BCCI official was asked about the interviews for the post, he said: “Obviously, Sunil Joshi has the best CV of all the other candidates. In the event of Nooshin, the BCCI will also have a female wing drawn up with international, national and national female cricketers.” “Although the elite level embellish the CV and Sunil is the only test cricket player (male) among those who appeared for an interview, his biggest plus is a considerable experience in the elite coaching.
“He has led to several first class teams, was part of the implementation of IPL training and also led to the senior men’s international team. And don’t forget, he is Bengaluru, which has a lot of logistical sense,” he said.
But even DHRUV cannot be excluded because he has played a lot of cricket for Sarashtra and Gujarat.
Most candidates were questioned about their vision of the role.
The chosen candidate should not only provide technical information to international stars like Ravira Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav or Washington Sundar, but also working with a crowd from India A, U-19 India and the best interior artists.
The designated coach will also create a synergy between the coaches of the state team and will coordinate with the national selectors for the preparation of the players during the return to the game after the recovery of the injuries.
