French player Alize Cornet announced on Monday that she would return to professional tennis less than a year after her retirement from the sport. The 35 -year -old man, who holds the female record for most consecutive apparitions of the Grand Slam with 69, will play in a second level event in Spain which begins on March 31. Cornet will enter the main draw of a Clay-Court tournament in Rouen in April as Wildcard, before playing qualification for Italian and Madrid. “Even if it is only for a few tournaments, the desire to play and the excitement of the competition is definitely there,” said Cornet in an Instagram post.
Cornet reached a career ranking of the 11th in 2009, defeated Serena Williams three times and reached the quarter -finals of the Australian Open 2022.
She first retired after having undergone a first -round debate by Zheng Qinwen at the Open of France last year.
