The captain of the Indians of Mumbai, Hardya, and his team received heavy fines for having maintained a slow pace, while their rival of the head coach of Gujarat Titans, Ashish Nehra, also lowered a financial penalty and a demerit point for driving “unlike the spirit of the game” in their IPL confrontation. Mi lost by three counters via the Duckworth-Lewis (DLS) method in GT in a match affected by the rain that ended well after midnight at the Wankhede stadium. “As was the second offense of the season of his team as part of the IPL code of conduct concerning excessive minimum offenses, Pandya was sentenced to a fine of 24 Lakh rupees,” the IPL in a statement. The rest of the MI team, including the impact player and the concussion substitute, was each sentenced to an individual fine, or 6 Lakh, or 25% of their respective match fees, the least important.

Nehra’s offensive was not explicitly stated in the IPL press release, but the former Pace was visibly agitated for a considerable time during the match which experienced several rain stops. He was also seen engaged in animated discussions with referees on the ground.

“Ashish Nehra, head coach, Gujarat Titans, was sentenced to a fine of 25% of his match fees and also accumulated a demerit point for having raped the IPL code of conduct,” said IPL.

“He admitted the level 1 offensive under article 2.20 – which concerns conduct contrary to the spirit of the game – and accepted the sanction of the match referee,” he added.

For level 1 violations of the Code of Driving, the decision of the match referee is final and restrictive.
