‘Haven’t Punched Above Weight’: RCB Official Wants Star Duo To Do More

A large part of the success of Royal Challengers Bengaluru this season was the performance of the undervalued Filanors Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma, but their director of Cricket Mo Bobat does not think that the two strike over their weight. Krunal and Suyash have managed to stem the flow of races in the medium letters, compliming a strong strike unit. While Krunal put 13 counters in bags, Suyash maintained his savings rate in less than eight points by the nine games of which he was a part.

Both played a major role in RCB’s victory over Delhi’s capital on Sunday evening. Krunal was the versatile interpreter when he recorded his first IPL FIFTY since 2016.

On paper, the RCB spin service does not seem great, but it has certainly done the job.

“If you look at the performances of Krunal and Suyash, I would not describe them as a punch above their weight. They do what they are capable of,” Bobat said after the six-track victory.

“And in fact, I hope they will improve. Suyash is still young. He is 21 years old. He will have a good series of matches this season. He will continue to improve.

“Today was one of his best Bowling performances, so he got a better game after the match. So, I certainly don’t think he’s knocking over his weight. He has much more to do.” Krunal collects the advantages of a change of action and puts more revolutions on the ball.

“Krunal has a reputation for a reason. He was a fantastic bowling player in IPL for a long time. He was usually someone who was quite stingy.

“He did not give a lot of colors with his savings rate. But in fact, it was good to see him even more courageously this year and to take more counters,” said Bobat.

The Director of Cricket added that it was a conscious effort to add players from the Krunal Pedigree at the mega auction last year.

“I spoke to him at the interval at halftime and he spoke passionately about how some of our positions on the field could have been better. He has so much to offer tactically. And then he went out and did the company with the bat too.

“So, in recruitment, we wanted to add players from this ilk, this experience, guys who can submit to pressure. And it was great to see Krunal do this today, especially with Virat who guides us,” he said.

Virat Kohli has succeeded in his sixth score of 50 in 10 rounds this season to anchor the pursuit of the team outside.
