“Haven’t Resigned”: Boxing Great Mary Kom Breaks Silence On Reports Of Quitting IOA Panel

The chairman of the Indian Olympic Association and Boxing Association and Legendary Mc Mary Kom athlete commission on Tuesday denied information that she had resigned from her post, insisting that she was misunderstood and completed her mandate in the panel. Manipuri, 42, who is also a winner of the 2012 Olympic Games, went to Haldwani for the closing ceremony of the national games last week when she expressed her dissatisfaction to have been deposited in a “lower hotel”. Addressing PTI, Mary Kom said that her explosion had been misinterpreted as resignation.
“I have not resigned, I will end my mandate (which ends in 2026),” she said.
“I simply said to my colleagues (athletes commission) that if this type of treatment will reproduce, I will plan to resign. I never said that I resign. Ioa is my family and if I am unhappy with something, I have the right to express it.
“This does not mean that I resign,” she continued.
Mary Kom was elected to the panel in 2022 with the table tennis pillar in Sharath Kamal as vice-president.
The commission also includes the double component of Olympic medal, the PV Sindhu, the former shooter Om Prakash Karhana, the Winter Olympian Shiva Keshavan, the London Olympic Games, the bronze shooter Gagan Narang, the former captain of Hocy Mirabai Chanu.
“I don’t know why every time I raise my voice for something, is it misunderstood like that?
“I was installed in a bad hotel when I went for the closing ceremony of the national games despite the fact that a best hotel was available. If others could be accommodated, why not me? It was the only question I asked,” she insisted.
“The next thing I know, people say that I have resigned. Where is the resignation? Has anyone saw it?” She asked.
When asked if she had had a word with the president of the IOA PT USHA on this subject, Mary Kom said: “I couldn’t connect with her because my phone was moved. But I will talk to her, I have good communication with her.” One of the most decorated Indian athletes, Mary Kom was part of the athlete forum of the International Olympic Committee (CIO) in the past and has a fairly good experience on the administrative side of sports.
